The New Children’s Museum in downtown San Diego’s Marina District is an environmentally sustainable building designed by architect Rob Wellington Quigley, providing a dynamic, playful public space and community center for children and families—a place to experience exciting art exhibitions, hands-on studio projects, performances, in-depth classes, camps and educational programs.
The highly-anticipated opening of the Museum in 2008 was cause for much celebration as it met an urgent community need, providing early exposure to the visual arts at a time when arts curriculum is increasingly cut from schools. And with a focus on sustainability, The New Children’s Museum provides an environment that encourages active minds, healthy bodies and unstructured play.
J Public Relations partnered with the Museum to handle all publicity efforts surrounding its inaugural Think.Play.Create. Gala celebration in 2008 and subsequently, its Superheroes Ball in August, 2009. Certainly not your traditional “rubber chicken dinner,” both events were wildly successful and received accolades from guests and media alike for putting fun twists into the evenings including a Superhero Obstacle Course, troop of professional swing dancers and a concert by 80’s rock icon Pat Benatar.
